Northwind Analytics · A software startup serving mid-market operations teams

This week’s recommendationKeep your pricing steady.
Check Fjord’s marketplace.
====================================================

**Lumen has changed its published offer. Fjord may offer customers a simpler way to buy.** Check how three typical workloads compare before changing Northwind’s pricing. Then find out whether Fjord’s marketplace could help with the procurement delays you already face. Bring both answers to the next leadership review.

Check how Lumen’s new offer compares.
-------------------------------------

Predictable costs still matter. Check whether your case is as clear for customers with lower usage.

Lumen’s published mid-market offer now uses usage bands. Northwind competes on predictable costs, but customers with lower usage may compare the two offers differently from those with heavier usage.

Work through the figures before changing Northwind’s prices. Lumen’s new model could appeal to a customer with light usage, while a busier team may place more value on predictable costs. The comparison needs to show what each customer would use, what they would pay and which assumptions could change the answer.

What to do this week**Compare three typical customer workloads with Lumen’s published usage bands.** Show where the costs differ and check the assumptions behind them. If the results change how you should explain Northwind’s value, suggest the wording to update. If they don’t, record why the current explanation still works.

There is no earlier observation to compare it with. It doesn’t tell us what existing customers pay, whether their contracts have changed or when the bands took effect.

Route to market

Fjord may offer a simpler purchasing route.
-------------------------------------------

The marketplace could help with procurement delays on Northwind’s larger deals.

Fjord has announced a UK cloud marketplace where partners can publish products with consolidated customer billing from 6 October 2026. As Fjord is already a partner, it’s worth finding out whether Northwind could use it.

The possible benefit is a simpler way to buy the same product. Before putting it in the commercial plan, check whether Northwind qualifies, what the fees are and how billing would work.

Use accounts where you already know procurement is causing delays. Check the proposed route against their purchasing requirements, so the recommendation rests on a problem the team has actually encountered.

What to do this week**Get the listing terms and check them against three existing accounts.** Ask Fjord to confirm eligibility, fees and billing. With Finance, assess whether the route would help those accounts and recommend whether to apply for a listing.

Source note · Reported on 25 September 2026Fjord Cloud partner announcement, published 25 September 2026. It describes the marketplace launch planned for 6 October 2026 and consolidated billing. We still need to confirm whether Northwind qualifies, what it would cost and whether it would suit the accounts being considered.

Since we last briefed youLumen has changed two parts of its offer.
-----------------------------------------

The 21 September 2026 brief recorded an increase to Lumen’s enterprise minimum. Its mid-market page now shows a different pricing model. Together, these changes raise a question about how Lumen wants different customers to buy. Keep the earlier change in mind when reviewing the workload comparison. It may help explain the direction, though two changes aren’t enough to establish a strategy.

Reviewed and set asideFive developments to leave aside this week.
-------------------------------------------

These developments don’t need a separate action this week. The reasons are below, so you can check that judgement.

Lumen DataWebsite redesign. Review alongside the pricing change; no separate recommendation.

Fjord CloudQuarterly results. No change to the marketplace checks recommended above.

Tessel LabsWebinar announcement. Repeats the workflow launch covered in the previous brief.

Harbrook AIOffice move. Outside Northwind’s target market and hiring plan.

Oakhurst LogisticsNew technology leader. Useful to know, though it doesn’t tell us whether purchasing plans have changed.

CoverageWhat we know. What still needs checking.
----------------------------------------

News is available for all six organisations, with selected pricing pages followed for four. Public pricing pages are unavailable for Harbrook and Tessel in this example, so we can’t assess their pricing changes. Revisit this week’s recommendations if the workload comparison or Fjord’s terms give you reason to change them.
